We’re proud to announce our new photography business!! It’s been a happy journey arriving at Redbud Portrait Photography!
When Mark & Suzia first partnered up nearly a decade ago, it was to photograph characters and guests at the Bristol Renaissance Faire. They quickly discovered they had much in common, sharing a love for laughing, finding outlets for their creative and often zany ideas, and photographing magical moments. As their romance blossomed, they developed their individual photography businesses, working separately as Mark Wedow Photography and Photos By Suzia.
Suzia was photographing a client on a fairy-themed set she’d designed and created when Mark asked if she’d ask the client if they would allow a second photographer so he could also photograph them on the elaborate set and create some magical images. It only took that one session of photographing side by side for them to realize working together was better than alone. The client loved photos from both Suzia & Mark but after delivering the finished images using both his & her logos, they decided that could be the cause of some confusion at some point.
It’s not uncommon that husband and wife photographers shoot and edit very similarly but Mark & Suzia found they had equally matched eyes for detail when photographing and very similar editing styles. It was clear that uniting under one photography business would allow them greater opportunities to capture magical moments their clients would love!
But what to name the new business? They quickly learned that merging their names created less than memorable names for a photography studio and after laughing at the silly combinations they came up with, it was decided that it would be best if they didn’t use their names. Fun fact – there’s a redbud tree in their yard that overlooks their vegetable garden. While Suzia was watching Mark pick tomatoes and lettuce for dinner, inspiration struck for a possible name for their business together. After suggesting it to Mark, they sat on it for a week, asking the opinions of their kids, family, and friends.
Part of naming the new business was also identifying the photography genre or niche they’d be offering their clients. They offer maternity sessions, personality sessions, and high school senior sessions. Clients come to them for pictures, whether it’s glamour, headshots, or branding photos. They’ve taken thousands of pictures of couples, children, and families. Suzia loves empowering sessions and intimate portraiture too. And their favorite… creative themed sessions, with themes leaning toward the fantastical like fairies and mermaids, and also the magical such as Santa’s Magical Storybook Visit.
And so their decision became evident as all they photograph clients in multiple genres – they are PORTRAIT photographers. Whether the final images for clients are traditional portraits, fine art storybook portraits, or specialty portraits, they are each special and magical and created with love. A session with Redbud Portrait Photography is filled with laughter and fun, whether it’s outdoors photographing seniors or families, at a studio where they’ve created a fantasy mermaid grotto, or even in their front yard where Mark designed and built a magical cottage that’s the perfect backdrop for photos in all seasons.
